Example 2 Coping,RST, Detortion

In the context of the asexual reproduction of metamorphoses images another operation is presented which consists of three part operations. The detortion operation is one component. This reproduction is a more complex type as the mutation through detortion in ROIs:

1.Selection of a segment of a parent individuum through a copy function.

2.RST Transformation (rotation - scaling - translation).

3.Performing a sequence of detortion operations.

By changing the sequence of the part processes different strategies can be derived. Following the sequence Copy-RST-Detortion shall be regarded.

This significance of this class of asexual reproduction strategies is, that a segment of the parent individuum is selected and mutated. This part is used as an offspring. In the case of metamorphoses images, mainly centered according to the center of the image, this strategy demands additional scaling and translational operations.

Selection of segments of masks

If an individuum is selected for a mutation, the region has to be specified on which the copy function should be applied. Different methods are possible like the usage of masks that a manually produced. These could be compared to the regions of interest in the framework of pure detortion-mutation. Regions are of interest, which are determined through free hand selection. They are determined according to the structure of the image in contrast to the rectangular ROIs. For individual images several overlapping masks are commonly generated.

Image 1) Parent Individuum with masks

The first step of the asexual reproduction is to select one mask out of the amount of masks of a parent individuum for reproduction.

Cutting and copying

Through the selected mask a region within the image is specified which will be copied or cut and will be used as starting point for further operations. If the frame of the metamorphoses image is regarded, the mask defines a subsegment within this frame. Parts lying out of this frame are cut off.

Centering and Scaling

The selected subsegment shall be used as a new individuum. A measurement is defined, that adds a distinct number of pixels on the upper and lower region to the highest and lowest image point. Another method could be to use a specialized image measurement, where the corresponding image segment is centered and scaled.

Detortion

The whole picture can be seen as a ROI on which a sequence V(k,i) of detortion operations is applied. Another valid method would be, to manually define rectangular ROIs and to define a corresponding mutational vector which determines the ROIs, which should be detorted. The sequence of the detortions within the selected ROIs should be determined as well.

Post Processing and successful selection

After the detortion operation are applied the offspring is transformed into the interim population. Here the is offspring is evaluated and eventually selected. Selected individuals may be post processed maybe in regard to the background.

Determination of ROIs and Masks

If the offspring of an asexual reproduction operation shall be processed the rectangular ROIs and the masks must be determined, depending on the strategy of asexual reproduction. If both methods can be performed simultaneously in one generation, the ROIs and the Masks should be specified.
